XML
and EDI Technology for Statistical Data Exchange
Design
of XML standard schemas, EDIFACT implementations and related software
tools for the collection, exchange and validation of statistical data
and metadata, based on UML information models and incorporating XML
technologies for data encryption, digital signatures and
authentication, XForms, XSLT format transformations and XML schema
based data validation.
- SDMX Reference Metadata for Use within Eurostat’s website:
Architecture, design and development of web services and tools which
support the automatic exchange, processing and publication of
statistical reference metadata (based on SDMX - ML data format) between
Eurostat, Member States and international organizations (Eurostat, 2007)
- SODI - SDMX Open Data Interchange:
A system for the automatic exchange of Principal European Economic
Indicators (PEEIs) between Member States, Eurostat and international
organisations, using the SDMX-ML data format and based on web services
and RSS notifications. (Eurostat, 2006-2007)
- XML
for Foreign Trade Statistics:
Design and standardisation of XML standard formats (SDMX-ML,
INSTAT/XML) for the collection and exchange of foreign trade statistics
within the overall Intrastat system, including work on the
incorporation of encryption, digital signatures and complex data
validation. (Eurostat, 2003-2006)
- GESMES
Support:
Development, maintenance and support of GESMES (the EDIFACT Generic
Statistical Message) implementations for the exchange of
multidimensional data sets and time series in various statistical
domains, between Member States, Eurostat and international
organisations such as European Central Bank (ECB) and OECD. (Eurostat, 2006)
- XDIS-SDMX
- Analysis and Metadata Registry:
A web - based metadata registry for the implementation and maintenance
of SDMX structural definitions, which promotes the sharing,
dissemination and publishing of statistical data between Eurostat,
Member States and international organisations (ECB, OECD, IMF). (Eurostat, 2006-2007)
- GENEDI
Toolbox:
Maintenance and further development of the GENEDI toolbox (a generic
GESMES/EDI conversion and data validation tool), including work on
design of GESMES implementations for specific statistical domains, data
validation, encryption and confidentiality protection. (Eurostat, 2003-2004)
- e-Mage
Data Centre:
Implementation of trademark data service for Customs, including a
trademark database, software tools and web services, for the
validation, loading and delivery of XML files containing registered
trademarks and industrial designs. (e-Mage Consortium, 2004)
- Harmonisation
of validation for Foreign Trade statistics:
preparation of a harmonized, complete set of validation and correction
rules for all stages of external trade statistics production in the
European Statistical System and design and implementation of XML schema
for sharing and exchange of validation and correction rules and
metadata between Member States and Eurostat. (Eurostat, 2006)
Also
refer to projects ETIS and STATLAS (see section on "Information Systems
for official statistics") for implementations of web services for
multidimensional data extraction, formatting and delivery in GESMES/XML
and SDMX standard formats.
